A man in his 30s was struck and seriously injured this morning in Waltham when a woman with a driver's permit briefly lost control of her car, striking the man as he walked on Newton Street, according to Waltham police Captain William Stanton.
Stanton said the 6:45 a.m. incident is still under investigation. He did not immediately have the age of the driver but said a licensed driver was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The car was being driven on Grove Street and as the driver turned right onto Newton Street, "she overturned and struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk,Ē pushing the man up against a stone wall, Stanton said.
The man suffered serious leg injuries and was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. "He was conscious and alert at the time,'' Stanton said.
The man's condition was not immediately available. The department's crash investigation unit was still on the scene at mid morning.
