All lanes of Mass. Pike to reopen
By Mac Daniel, Globe Staff
After weeks of delays and stalled traffic, the Turnpike Authority on Friday will reopen all lanes leading from Massachusetts Turnpike to the newly opened eastbound I-90 connector, loosening a traffic bottleneck that had drivers fuming.
All three lanes from the Prudential tunnel to the I-93 interchange will open at 5 a.m. Friday to alleviate the congestion at the two-lane merge into the single-lane connector tunnel. The right lane is currently closed on that section of the Pike, a measure transportation officials said was meant to meter traffic going into the tunnel.
There is a catch, however. The right lane will now take traffic only to the I-90 Tunnel and Logan International Airport. The center lane will be used exclusively for traffic headed to Interstate 93.
