Fung Wah bus overturns; 34 injured
A Fung Wah bus carrying 58 passengers overturned on an Interstate 290 off-ramp in Auburn, injuring 34 passengers, all reporting minor injuries, officials said.
State police said the injured had been taken to the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment.
The accident forced the closing of Exit 7 leading from I-290 to Route 12, with State police saying speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
The accident happened about 2 p.m. as the bus traveled from New York to Boston. The discount bus line has come under intense scrutiny in the past after several accidents and bus fires.
Officials with the state Department of Telecommunications and Energy, which regulates bus lines, said the bus involved in the accident was last inspected in May and had no violations.
