By Sarah M. Kneezle, Globe Correspondent
A man was charged today with motor vehicle homicide after police say he hit and killed an off-duty police officer who was riding a motorcycle in Quincy on Saturday.
Michael Brown, 42, of Quincy, also faces charges that include driving to endanger and failure to yield when making a left turn after he was in a blue 2000 Ford Focus on Route 3A Saturday and hit Officer James Cochrane, 38, according to Quincy Police Captain John Dougan.
Cochrane was off duty but had served on the department’s motorcycle unit for eight years. He died on Sunday at Boston Medical Center. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday.
