A 29-year-old Hubbardston man was in the custody of Spencer police Wednesday, accused of throwing objects at vehicles along Route 49 in East Brookfield and Spencer.

Robert A. Canavan was charged with six counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and five counts of wanton destruction of property for throwing such things as rocks, plastic bottles, and an aluminum can from his moving vehicle, which struck the windshields of the victims.

The five incidents took place on Sept. 18, 20, 24, 25, and after the last one on Sept. 26, police stopped several vehicles, including the defendant, who was brought in for questioning and subsequently arrested yesterday. Canavan was held on $50,000 bail and will be arraigned Thursday in Western Worcester District Court.
