City announces it will distribute gunlocks
By Suzanne Smalley, Globe Staff
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced this morning that the city will hand out 5,000 free gunlocks to help prevent accidental shootings in homes.
The gunlocks, which stop the triggers from being pulled, will be distributed starting Thursday through the 11 Boston Police district stations as well as police headquarters. The city is partnering with Project ChildSafe on the project.
"We lock our doors to keep intruders out of our homes, and yet we don't require locks on our guns," Menino said at a press conference. "That's crazy."
