A coalition of civil rights and anti-discrimination groups plan to distribute leaflets and buttons Wednesday stating "I Do Not Submit to a Search" to MBTA passengers to protest the state and T's policy of randomly searching carry-on bags for explosives.

The National Lawyers Guild, the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, and others are behind the protest. An official from the National Lawyers Guild said the groups are also researching whether to legally challenge the searches, which began Oct. 10 and which made Massachusetts only the second state in the nation to conduct them on a regular basis.

The pamphlets and buttons will be distributed at Ruggles station during the morning commute and at North Station during the evening commute, officials said.
