A pumpkin thrown from a Route 2 overpass in Phillipston early this morning smashed into the windshield of a passing car and injured a woman, police said.

The gourd was thrown from the Highland Street overpass just after midnight and hit a westbound a 1996 Ford Escort. The driver, Lilli Carroll, 52, of Athol, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Athol Memorial Hospital, police said.

State police searched the overpass but were unable to locate any suspects. Similar incidents with pumpkins occurred last month in Templeton and Harvard.
