Severe weather predicted for the weekend
By Boston.com staff
A very windy and wet weekend is in store for much of New England and the storm could cause wide-spread damage and even some flooding.
The National Weather Service, in a series of statements and advisores posted on its website, is warning that winds on both days could gust up to between 55 and 60 mph and that rainfall in many areas on Saturday could be as much as three inches.
The NWS said the powerful storm system which is expected to hit all six New England states will began moving into the area on Friday night.
The bulk of the rain is expected on Saturday and Saturday night but the blustery winds are expected to continue well into Sunday.
The weather service cautions the combination of high winds, still partially leafed trees and a wet ground due to the heavy rainfall on Saturday " will probably result in downed trees and powerlines both Saturday and Sunday."
The weather station at Burlington, Vt. is advising in a "hazardous weather outlook" that wet snow may occur in the Adirondack and Green Mountain regions early Saturday and there is a potential for some flooding later Saturday followed by snowshowers on Saturday night.
The NWS at Gray, Me. is also pointing out there could be snow and sleet in northern parts of New England and that there could be flooding in low-lying areas and on roads in urban areas.
As today goes on the NWS said they will be providing updates on their website and issuing news warnings and advisories as necessary.
