State announces smart growth grants
By Globe Staff
State environmental officials announced today that 51 communities will receive a total of more than $800,000 to help land-use planning and "smart growth" efforts.
The grants are designed to encourage development that promotes transit, does not lead to sprawl, and protects resources such as water and farmland. The money will go to municipalities and regional planning agencies for projects such as developing stormwater rules, open space bylaws, and transit-oriented zoning districts.
