Alleged drug lab found in a Brighton basement
By Globe Staff
Boston Police and federal agents have uncovered what they alleged was a clandestine drug lab operating in Brighton.
Authorities said officers from the Boston Police Drug Control Unit and agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration executed a search warrant this afternoon on Surrey Street in Brighton.
While executing the warrant, investigators detected a strong chemical odor coming from the basement.
Police said a detective checked the basement and discovered what appeared to be a secret lab. Investigators are trying to determine if a designer drug such as Ecstasy was being manufactured there.
One person was placed under arrest who police did not immediately identify. Boston Fire and Hazmat Teams are currently on scene.
