A former Roxbury man accused of killing of a police officer in mid-October agreed today to return to New Hampshire to face charges in a state where officials have vowed to seek the death penalty.
Michael Addison, 26, is accused of shooting Manchester, N.H. police officer Michael L. Briggs once in the head early in the morning of October 16. Addison was arrested later the same day in the apartment of a relative in Dorchester.
Briggs, a father of two, died the next day. Addison was jailed in lieu of $2 million bail after refusing the voluntarily return to New Hampshire. Briggs was the first Manchester police officer in 30 years to die in the line of duty.
Dorchester District Court today was packed with New Hampshire and Massachusetts officers for the brief proceeding during which Addison, who was represented by the public defender's office, waived his rights to resist being returned to New Hampshire.
Addison was then taken back to the Granite State in a convoy of Boston, Manchester and Massachusetts State Police vehicles.
