A woman in her 50s died today after she was struck by an outbound commuter train in West Bridgewater, according to transit officials.

The incident at about 10:50 a.m. just south of the Campello station halted train service on the Middleborough/Lakeville Line while police investigated. Regular service resumed with the 2:15 p.m. outbound train from South Station. MBTA warned that there could be some minor residual delays as the investigation continues.

Passengers were being bused between Middleborough and Campello stations.

There were 42 passengers on the train, who were bused to the next station, according to Transit police Lieutenant Joseph O'Connor.

The woman was on the tracks near the Matfield Street crossing when she was struck. She died at the scene. Investigators tested the crossing signal after the incident and it was found to be in proper working order, O'Connor said.
