The massive explosion in Danvers this morning closed several local streets but has not impacted major roads. Traffic watchers are keeping their eyes on Route 128 and Route 114, which were flowing at 8 a.m. but could bog down as traffic picks up this afternoon for Thanksgiving.

Cindy Campbell of SmartRoute Systems Inc., the traffic monitoring
firm, said the local road closures had caused some slow traffic in Danvers. Gardner, Pulaski, Water Street and High Street are all partially closed, she said.

Traffic on Route 114 in Danvers is expected to slow. "Route 114 is going to carry a very heavy load," Campbell said.

North Shore residents heading toward Boston should try and take the MBTA commuter rail, she recommended.

Morning traffic on the day before Thanksgiving tends to be light, Campbell said, though around 2 p.m., it is expected to increase.

"We're going to be watching things very closely," she said.
