A Springfield man lit a woman's house on fire in an attempt to kill her, authorities said.

The woman survived, but she suffered burns to 90 percent of her body and was in critical condition today at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The man, Lastarande Bell, 31, also suffered minor burns to his hands after he allegedly ignited the house Sunday while the woman slept inside.

The woman, whose name was not released, had a restraining order against Bell, police said.

When released from Mass. General, Bell will be arrested and charged with attempted murder and arson, police said.
