Two missing Lynn girls were found unharmed this morning when a commuter recognized them in South Station from a photo that ran on television and contacted transit police.

The girls, ages 6 and 8, were found at about 9 a.m. with their mother, who police said is estranged from the family. They are being evaluated at a Boston hospital as a precaution, police said. Later today, police plan to reunite the girls with their father, Yves Adrien.

Police said they have not determined whether charges will be filed against the mother, Magalie Phillippe, 39, of Lynn. Police notified the state Department of Social Services about the incident.

The girls live with their father and were supposed to be picked up by their grandmother in front of the Lynn Public Library Tuesday afternoon after being dismissed from the nearby Cobbett Elementary School on Franklin Street.
