Methuen mayor eyes discipline for police chief
Methuen Mayor William M. Manzi III has taken a significant first step toward possibly disciplining the city's police chief.
Earlier this week, the US Justice Department told the city to repay nearly $30,000 in overtime it says the police department improperly paid to some ranking officers.
Today, Manzi said that Police Chief Joseph Solomon is ultimately responsible for making sure that public safety grants are properly administered.
As a result, Manzi said, he wants to conduct a just cause hearing, to determine if Solomon should be disciplined. The hearing date has not yet been set.
