Police ID pedestrian killed on I-495 as Lawrence man
By John R. Ellement, Globe Staff
State Police identified the pedestrian struck and killed this morning on Interstate 495 in Tewksbury as Robert Paquin, 63, of Lawrence.
Several drivers swerved to avoid hitting Paquin as he walked across the breakdown lane and three traffic lanes near Exit 39, which is Route 133.
He was struck at 6:20 a.m. while in the third travel lane because the driver of a 2001 Saab sedan "was unable to avoid Paquin," according to a press release. Paquin died at the scene.
The Saab's driver, who was hospitalized for observation, was not charged. State police said the accident is still under investigation. Two lanes of I-495 remained closed for about 2.5 hours.
