Brush fire spreads from Fitchburg to Westminster
By Globe Staff
Firefighters are battling a widespread brush fire today that has stretched several miles from Fitchburg to Westminster.
Lieutenant Kenneth Desjean of the Fitchburg Fire Department said firefighters from surrounding towns have been called to battle the flames that first broke out about 10:30 a.m. along railroad tracks.
There are some homes near the fire, but no one has been evacuated, Desjean said.
Firefighters are trying to stop the blaze from spreading. A staging area has been set up in an industrial park near the intersection of Route 2 and Route 31.
No injuries have been reported. It is not clear what caused the fire.
