All eyes on the Patriots Day weather forecast
What if they reenacted the Battle of Lexington and nobody's flintlock would fire?
Jim Roberts, chairman of the reenactment committee for the Lexington Minutemen, says all eyes are on the weather forecasts today to see whether the Patriots Day reenactment on the town green will have to be canceled.
If officials decide to hold Monday's reenactment in the rain, then the event may lack its usual thunder and smoke, Roberts said.
"I’ve been in reenactments before where we have had a light mist and we’ve been OK. But anything beyond that, you can’t fire," said Roberts.
Roberts said some groups that participate in the Patriots Day festivities are already pulling out, but the Minutemen are waiting to hear from town officials, who will announce late Sunday whether the event will be canceled.
The National Weather Service forecast for Sunday and Monday is calling for stormy weather, with rain and snow Sunday night, and rain, sometimes heavy, on Monday.
Despite the dismal forecast, the Boston Athletic Association said that the Boston Marathon -- another Patriots Day classic -- will proceed as planned.
