Another child recovering after 2nd pit bull attack in Boston

A 7-year-old Dorchester boy is recovering today from bites on his arm and back after the second pit bull attack in Boston in less than 24 hours.
Zayre Morant was playing with friends on Jacobs Street in north Dorchester at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was attacked by a pit bull, according to police and the boy's family. Other children were able to beat back the dog with sticks and were "heroes," said Zayre's grandmother, Dorothea Shearrion.
Zayre was rushed to Boston Medical Center and may require plastic surgery, Shearrion said.
Police removed two pit bulls from a nearby home on Jacobs Street. Police said the dogs' owner was issued citations by Animal Control officers.
The attack came just hours after a 2-year-old girl was bitten at her uncle's home on Pond Street in Hyde Park, police said.
Several attacks by pit bulls over recent months have focused attention on the breed. Lawmakers on the State's Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government plan to hold a hearing Monday on potential new dog-control laws, including a proposal that would ban pit bulls statewide.
