One woman died early today and another was seriously injured in a two-car crash in the eastbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike in Weston.

State Police say that 22-year-old Renee R. Woodbury of Lynn lost control of her car and it crashed into a Jersey barrier in the median strip at about 3 a.m. After hitting the barrier, the vehicle came to rest perpendicular to other traffic and was hit by another vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was declared dead at the scene.

The operator of the second vehicle and two of her passengers who were wearing seatbelts sustained no serious harm. But a third passenger, Karin Kachbalyan, 30, of Bedford, who was not wearing a seat belt, was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the state police.
