Ruptured pipe floods part of Congress Street
By Amanda I. Bergeron, Globe Correspondent
A pipe ruptured this morning at a construction site on Congress Street and flooded much of nearby Sleeper Street.
The construction crew was working at about 9 a.m. on a court mandated sewer project, said Thomas Bagley, a spokesman for Boston Water and Sewer. The flood was as deep as 2 to 3 feet.
"The water rose pretty quickly," Bagley said. "But we had crews right there."
By 10 a.m., the flood had receded and water service had been restored to nearby businesses, Bagley said.
The area that flooded is on the edge of the Seaport District, just across a bridge from the Financial District.
