A West Roxbury woman was killed in a fire that destroyed her apartment early this morning.

The woman lived alone in a fourth-floor condo unit at Broadlawn Commons Condominiums, neighbors said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which began around midnight, before it could spread to other apartments.

About 100 people were evacuated for several hours last night and then allowed to return to their homes.

Steve MacDonald, a spokesman for the Boston Fire Department, said authorities had not yet determined what started the fire. He said the medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death of the woman, whose name officials withheld pending notification of relatives.
