Acton nursing home indicted in 2004 death of longtime resident

By Globe Staff

A Tennessee company that operates a nursing home in Acton has been indicted on manslaughter, abuse, neglect, and fraud charges stemming from the 2004 death of one of its longtime residents.

Attorney General Martha Coakley plans to hold a press conference this afternoon to discuss the charges, according to a statement issued by her office.

Julia McCauley died in 2004 after living at an Acton nursing facility run by Life Care Centers of America Inc. In addition to the manslaughter, abuse, and neglect charges, the company is also accused of filing a false Medicaid claim in connection with McCauley’s death.

A spokesperson for Life Care Centers of America declined to discuss the indictment.
