Cohasset police are pursing possible criminal charges against a father who is accused of allowing underage drinking at a party in his $1 million home.
Police said they responded to reports of a loud party at the Pond Street home of Anthony DiPaolo on Thursday night and found some 30 teens allegedly drinking alcohol, according to a Cohasset Police report filed in court.
DiPaolo told police he was sleeping and was not aware of the party, according to the report. Asked by an officer if he was concerned about the potential liability he faces for allowing underage drinking in his home, DiPaolo allegedly responded, "kids will get the booze anyway and drink so it doesn't matter," according to the report.
Cohasset Police Chief James Hussey said in a telephone interview today that his department has applied for criminal charges against DiPaolo for providing alcohol to minors. A clerk's hearing will be held in Quincy District Court at a later date.
A woman who answered the telephone at the DiPaolo home today declined to speak to a Globe reporter.
On June 10, 2006, police responded to the DiPaolo house and allegedly found 60 teenagers drinking beer. Police arrested DiPaolo's 18-year-old son, who is also named Anthony, and his mother, Gloria. The charges were dismissed after mother and son paid several hundred dollars in court costs, records show.
On Thursday night, the younger DiPaolo's initially ordered police off the property, according to the police report. He swore at the officers and dropped into a combat stance, challenging police to "bring it on," according to the report.
The younger DiPaolo was arrested and pleaded not guilty today in Quincy District Court to disturbing the peace, furnishing liquor to minors, and illegal possession of alcohol. His attorney did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.
