Man found shot to death in South End

A 23-year-old man was found shot to death Sunday night in the South End, police said today.

Angel Ortiz, 23, was found near his bicycle on East Brookline Street with a bullet wound in his head at 11:40 p.m., police said. The South End resident was taken to Boston Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Ortiz became Boston's 27th homicide victim of the year -- exactly equaling the murder rate at this time last year.
