Blackout hits East Boston
By Aubrey Gibavic and John M. Guilfoil, Globe Correspondents
An electrical blackout hit a section of East Boston this afternoon, affecting 3,000 to 5,000 customers, including the Suffolk Downs racetrack.
Power went out around 1:30 p.m. after crews had a problem in a manhole in Everett. Power was restored at 3:30 p.m, Nstar spokeswoman Margaret Coughlan said.
Suffolk Downs shut down after the day's first race, said spokesman Chip Tuttle. Tuttle said the track was expecting a lot of business today and it had lost significant revenue because of the outage.
