Logan security remains high as terror concerns are raised
By Globe Staff
Federal airport security officials are emphasizing today that they don't have any intelligence that indicates a "specific or credible threat" to the United States, despite a disturbing report that raises the specter of terrorists practicing to bring bombs on airplanes.
The security threat level at Logan International Airport remains at orange, or high, the same level it has been for nearly a year, said Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Amy Kudwa.
The agency last week issued an intelligence bulletin asking security officials at airports nationwide to keep an eye out for terrorists possibly practicing their bomb techniques.
"We constantly feed intelligence and training information to our officers and the law enforcement community, and this is one example of such information sharing," the agency said in a statement on its website.
The statement said the intelligence bulletin was "routine," one of more than 90 produced during the past six months.
The Associated Press reported that the alert came after curious seizures since last September at airports in San Diego, Milwaukee, Houston, and Baltimore. Items seized, according to the bulletin, included "wires, switches, pipes or tubes, cellphone components, and dense claylike substances," including block cheese.
