Mill fire recovery efforts continue
Efforts continue today in Uxbridge to help the people who have lost their jobs due to a massive fire at a mill complex during the weekend.
Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency spokesman Peter Judge says that about a dozen state agencies will be offering assistance to workers at the town's Whitin Middle School.
The state opened a disaster assistance office at the town hall yesterday and served 85 people, Judge said. Officials decided to move the operation to the middle school today so more people could be served.
The US Small Business Administration will also be on hand to help businesses get back on their feet, Judge said.
Sixty-five small businesses and more than 300 employees were displaced by the eight-alarm blaze that broke out early Saturday morning at the Bernat Mill Complex.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, the state fire marshal's office said this morning.
