Even with air temperature climbing up near 85 degrees, the first dive into Boston Harbor today was still a cold shock for Janel Jorgensen, an Olympic swimmer who let out a yelp as he splashed into the water.

The harbor is a chilly 64 degrees, a temperature that prompted the swimmers taking part in a 22-mile relay to don wet suits. Participants took the plunge this morning for Swim Across America Inc., an organization raising money for cancer research, prevention, and treatment.

Even with a chill in the water, today and Saturday may be a perfect beach days, with low humidity, abundant sunshine, and temperatures in the mid-80s.

The weather is expected to deteriorate Sunday, when intense thunderstorms are expected to bring strong winds and pockets of hail. Those storms will mark the coming of a new weather system, which will be a sticky reminder that it is July.

"Monday and the beginning of next week we are going to welcome back summer weather," said Charlie Foley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Taunton. "With that the humidity will come back."
