DUDLEY -- A 26-year-old man faces two counts of murder and other charges today after authorities accused him of opening fire on three people early this morning in an apartment on West Main Street.

Police in this small mill town near the Connecticut border responded to the scene at 12:42 a.m. and found a man dead. A woman was rushed to a local hospital and was pronounced dead a few hours later. A second woman was shot in the head but was alive. Police declined to discuss her condition. None of the victims' names were released.

Christian Muller was arrested later in the day. He will also face a count of assault with intent to murder when he is arraigned Tuesday in Dudley District Court.

At a press conference this afternoon at police headquarters, authorities would not discuss a motive in the killings. They would only say that it was not a random act and that Muller was "known to police."

The address where the shooting took place is a thrift store named Mike's House of Bargains on the ground floor with apartments on the two upper floors. The building is next door to The 21 Sports Bar.

Ramon Cintron, 55, said in an interview today that he lives in one of the four apartments on the third floor above the thrift store. At about 5:30 a.m., Cintron said police officers knocked on his door to ask if he heard any gunshots. Cintron, who takes medication to help him sleep, said he did not hear anything.

"I feel terrible," Cintron said. "I've never seen anything like this happen, especially in this town, this quiet clean town."
