Boston soldier killed in Iraq

A Roxbury man serving in the Army has been killed in Iraq, a friend of the soldier's family said today.

Joan Duran, 24, was in his second tour in Iraq and due back home for a break later this month, Andrea Kelly, a family friend, said.

Kelly, who was present when Army officers notified the family of the death, said Duran was engaged to be married and a lifelong resident of Boston.

"He was a sweet kid. He was way too young to be there."
