MBTA Green Line upgrade to be completed early
By Caitlin Castello, Globe Correspondent
The MBTA announced today that work on the Green Line's D branch would be completed early -- just in time for this weekend's Red Sox series against the Baltimore Orioles.
Normal service will resume Saturday, three days earlier than scheduled.
"With the Orioles in town this weekend, we encourage Red Sox fans to try the swifter and smoother ride of improved Green Line service to Fenway," Daniel A. Grabauskas, general manager of the MBTA, said in a statement.
It is the first time since June 22 that the D line will run from Riverside to Kenmore uninterrupted, MBTA officials said. Riders have had to board shuttle buses to get to their destinations when parts of the line were closed.
Improvements to the D line include: better lighting, replacement of rail ties, upgraded signal and power systems, and new signs and benches at stations, the MBTA said.
