Person infected with EEE in New Hampshire
By Kay Lazar, Globe Staff
New Hampshire state health officials today reported the region's first human case of mosquito-borne Eastern equine encephalitis, involving a Newton, N.H., resident.
Officials have not released the person's name or details of the case. Two years ago, a 20-year-old woman in the town died of EEE.
There have been no cases in Massachusetts this year, and state health authorities say that the overall number of mosquitoes found with the virus is significantly lower than last year at this time. They are, however, urging the public to take precautions by checking for pools of standing water on their property and and wearing insect repellent.
