State transportation officials say they will work through the weekend to scrutinize Massachusetts bridges that have the same design as the one in Minneapolis that collapsed earlier this week.

Engineers and government officials have reviewed inspection records for 14 of the 24 bridges, Thomas Broderick, director of highway safety for the Massachusetts Highway Department, said.

So far, there have been no surprises, he said.

Reviews of the records for the remaining 10 bridges will continue over the weekend and should be complete by Monday night, Broderick said at a news conference this afternoon.

Once the paper reviews are complete, engineers will physically inspect each of the bridges, unless they have been inspected within the past six months, said Luisa M. Paiewonsky, the state highway commissioner.

Nine of the bridges have been rated structurally deficient. Engineers will inspect those bridges first, Paiewonsky said.
