« Saugus: open for business (but just barely) | Main | Stoneham considers private fundraising for budget gap » Monday, July 2, 2007Raynham passes overrideRaynham voters, on Saturday, approved an $874,000 override that will allow the town to fully fund its $12.5 million share of the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District's $55.7 million budget. The vote was 1,681 in favor and 1,348 opposed. According to Town Clerk Helen Lounsbury, 34 percent of the town's registered voters participated in the special election. Saturday's vote in Raynham will have an impact on neighboring Bridgewater, the other town in the school district, where voters two weeks ago defeated an override that would have fully funded its $19.5 million share of the school budget. The regional school committee, following Bridgewater's override defeat, decided to stick with its $55.7 million budget. The committee plans to call a joint town meeting, comprised of residents in both member towns, to try to gain approval of the amount. Over in Bridgewater, officials say covering the $1.5 million needed to fund its full share would mean devastating cuts to all other departments. The school committee is expected to meet within the next two weeks to set the date of the joint town meeting. -- Chris Wallgren Posted by David Dahl, Regional Editor at 10:49 AM
