Can't blame him for being rude
1/29/2004
TO ALL those who say that Senator Edward Kennedy's behavior was rude and disrespectful last week during the State of the Union address, I say he has every right to act this way ("The senator was misbehaving," letter, Jan. 28):
President Bush has done nothing but throw mud in the face of Democrats, especially Senator Kennedy. When Bush came to Washington and promised to be a unifier, he worked closely with Senator Kennedy to create the No Child Left Behind Act only to betray him and not fund the bill, making it impossible for schools in many states to comply. He also has blocked Senator Kennedy and other Democrats from negotiations for a health care bill and an energy bill.
President Bush in the past year has tried to make Americans believe Democrats who did not support his war in Iraq were unpatriotic and has said they were playing politics when in reality it was he who was playing politics, creating a false pretext for war, a war that has cost billions of dollars and more than 500 American lives.
The president and vice president also said that oil revenues from Iraq would more than pay for the war. I guess the check is in the mail.
Last year, Senator Kennedy sat by respectfully as President Bush told the nation that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, had purchased uranium in Africa, and had links to Al Qaeda. With all these fibs, President Bush has made Bill Clinton look like a straight shooter. So you know what? I for one don't blame Ted Kennedy for being a bit pessimistic this year.
