Bush and Rice need to testify

PRESIDENT BUSH recently said: "If our administration had intelligence that terrorists were going to hijack an airliner on Sept. 11 and fly it into the World Trade Center we would have acted on it." Of course he would have. But also obvious is that no one told him the exact date and target. The president did not deny being told about plans to hijack planes or even to use planes to attack buildings.

What needs to be resolved is what exactly he was told, and when. That's why it is critical that he and Condoleezza Rice testify, under oath, before the commission investigating 9/11 for as long as it takes to answer the numerous unresolved questions.

The Clintonian quibbling over the meaning of the phrase "had intelligence" must end.
