Fight rule that hurts women

THE APRIL 6 editorial on the Bush administration's global gag rule rightly pointed out the rule's chilling effect on women's health around the planet ("Unsafe abortions' toll"). Readers should know, however, that there is more than one US-based foreign aid group that has refused to agree to this unjust and destructive rule. International Planned Parenthood Federation for the Western Hemisphere, based in New York, also refused to sign the rule and as a consequence has lost $12 million in funding.

Despite this loss, our organization continues to provide the world's most vulnerable women access to sexual and reproductive health services. Readers can go to www.FreeChoiceSavesLives.org to send President Bush a letter asking him to rescind the rule and restore desperately needed assistance. Almost 15,000 Americans have done so already.
