Balloon release will harm fish

THE DEMOCRATIC National Convention folks are planning to release 250,000-plus balloons over Boston and the harbor during the festivities. This spells a death sentence for marine life that mistakens the partially deflated balloons for something edible.

Shouldn't the groups working in the politics of marine life conservation try to prevent this balloon release? Isn't this a violation of the Endangered Species Act or the Massachusetts litter law? Shouldn't an environmental impact study be done? Should the wildlife of Massachusetts be put at risk for a few minutes of hoopla?

I think it's a bad idea. I hope someone with clout does, too.
