Much ado about T cards

REGARDING the article on naming the new T swipe card ("New T passes need name to go," Page B1, Sept. 4): What a colossal waste of time and money. Does anyone believe that a clever card name will add one new rider to the T?

Spend the money explaining how the new fare system will work and making it easy for people to buy the card. Call it the T-Pass or T-Card and be done with it.

AS A FAN of the T (pleasant, efficient, fast), I would like to recommend T Party as the name for the new T pass. The name is unique, fun, and memorable. It emphasizes Boston's storied past. And it's logical: A person who rides the T is in fact a party on the T.

WHY NOT CALL the new T pass the T Cod? The name would honor two vital elements of this region's character: Its fishing industry and its accent. Native Bostonians wouldn't even have to learn a new name: They'd just ask for a T card.
