Dr. Durant's good works
GRACE DEVENEY'S moving piece from Sudan ("When the tears came," op ed, Dec. 21) brought to life the senseless war that has ravaged western Darfur where she and other brave relief workers toil at considerable personal risk.

In doing so, she is a worthy heir to the tradition established by Dorchester's Dr. Tom Durant.
Over his 35-year career Durant ministered to the sick and dying in 42 countries where war and famine were a constant presence.
Deveney's work is supported by funds contributed by Boston's medical community and other friends of Durant (www.durantfellowship.org). He would be very proud of her as are those of us who have contributed to the fellowship.
