Our new defense strategy

ALTHOUGH NOTHING in the world is perfect, the Globe's March 10 article is just about perfectly wrong (''Defense review has a go-it-alone tone," Page A2).

One of the principal objectives of the upcoming Quadrennial Defense Review is to strengthen alliances to make coalition military operations easier and better. Many national security problems nowadays are such that the United States cannot succeed by acting alone. Our plans envision close collaborative work with international partners, and that's one of the main themes of the terms of reference for the Quadrennial Defense Review.

Helping our allies and partners to bolster their capabilities to work effectively with us is a major concept in our new defense strategy.
