Cardinal has better things to do

I MUST CONFESS that I read and enjoyed ''The Da Vinci Code." If only I had known. I'd like to thank Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone for being a steward of my senses and helping me understand that I shouldn't be reading this work (''Cardinal urges Catholics not to read 'Da Vinci Code,' " Page A12, March 17).

I ask the cardinal, however, if he could take a minute out of his busy day, and, with the same diligence, do the same kind of investigation into the charges brought on by the pedophiles and their accomplices that the church currently employs?

While he is at it, he could take the time to ask one of his cardinal brothers to come back to Boston in order to explain his role in covering up these heinous crimes.

How typical it is that such an effort is taken by the church to debunk a work of fiction while the horror of reality is dealt with as an indiscretion.
