IN THE March 21 letter ''Gay rights era has challenged church," the writer accuses the Catholic Church of having a ''twisted view of sexuality."
Apparently, the writer buys into the perspective imposed on the Commonwealth when the Supreme Judicial Court forced gay marriage on us. When marriage in Massachusetts was redefined to include same-sex unions, the definition of what constitutes marital lovemaking was changed also. So, in Massachusetts, whatever gay folks do at bedtime is not merely lawful and acceptable. It is now formally endorsed as being fully on a par with traditional marital lovemaking.
When the Catholic Church (along with a whole lot of concerned parents and grandparents) is disturbed by this, does this concern reflect a ''twisted" view of human sexuality? When so many parents do not want to see their kids molded by a culture that promotes gay orientation as an equally desirable lifestyle, is this now viewed as bigotry?
Yes, gay folks do richly deserve warm acceptance and a full set of rights. But let's not allow gay-agenda zealots to trample the welfare of our kids (including those up for adoption) along the way.
