Marriage ruling stirs comparison to days of slavery

THE SUPREME Judicial Court ruling allowing the prevention of out-of-state same-sex couples from marrying in Massachusetts if their home states forbid the union may go down in history as the modern equivalent of the Dred Scott decision. As with that heinous 1857 ruling supporting slavery, the SJC's decision bolsters the ability of individual states to deny basic rights to their citizens. Perhaps the court's ruling will serve as a rallying cry for those of us who demand equal rights for all citizens throughout our nation.
