Elie Wiesel

AT THE TIME of President Kennedy's assassination I was serving as US correspondent for the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth. I was also on the staff of the Jewish Daily Forward. I was on my way home when I heard the first news flash. All I felt was numbness. One thought dominated my mind: "It's madness, madness, madness." I don't think I slept until the funeral.

Elie Wiesel is a professor at Boston University and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
