Governors cry out. The program provides essential healthcare, especially for the elderly and children, but its costs are rapidly growing. This week the National Governor's Association sent a warning letter to the Medicaid Commission. The tone was cordial. But the facts are scary. "In the next seven years, 78 million baby boomers will begin turning 65 years old. Medicaid simply cannot continue to afford to be the predominant provider of long-term care coverage for seniors." The governors want more room to experiment with ways to save money. |
