| 1930 Nancy cracks her first three cases. 1931 Bubbly, boy-crazy Bess and her cousin, irrepressibly tomboyish George arrive on the scene in ''The Secret at Shadow Ranch.'' Ned Nickerson follows a year later. 1944 Nancy studies to get a pilot's license as a gesture toward the war effort, in spite of the fact that WWII is never explicitly mentioned in the series. Her roadster morphs into a convertible. 1973 ''The Nancy Drew Cookbook: Clues to Good Cooking'' is published, filled with gems like Crumbling Wall Coffee Cake and Tolling Bell Tuna Rolls. 1978 Pamela Sue Martin, the star of the failed ''Nancy Drew'' TV series, models for Playboy, appearing on the cover in a strategically draped trench coat. 1980 At Nancy's 50th birthday bash, Ruth Bader Ginsburg confesses her loyalty: ''I liked Nancy Drew, yes. She was adventuresome, daring, and her boyfriend was a much more passive type than she was.'' 1986 ''The Nancy Drew Files'' series is launched, and Nancy gets her first pair of designer jeans as well as a red Mustang for tooling around River Heights. 1995 Nancy goes off to Wilder College – get it? – and dismal sales. 2004 Nancy trades her car for a blue hybrid and moves into the 21st century. |
